Tirrenia is a popular seaside resort on the Tyrrhenian coast of Tuscany. It is south of Viareggio, between Pisa and Livorno and it is characterized by a long beach and a pine forest where the houses are immersed. Tirrenia is a quiet location, but it can offer all kinds of facilities and entertainment for your dream holiday.
Among the wide variety of the Tuscan coastline landscapes, this pinewood reaches down the sea revealing an extraordinary scenery; where once there was the sea in ancient times, today we can see deer, roes and boars inside a forest which remains untouched and is protected on environmental grounds.
Tirrenia stretches along a coastal strip of about 10 km. It is completely surrounded by nature and it is nearby the two major towns of Pisa and Livorno.
Tirrenia was established during the fascist era when summer camps were built in Calambrone. They housed hundreds of children and teenagers giving them a sandy beach and a clean sea for their holidays. Tirrenia reached its greatest splendor in the 60s / 70s because of the Studios Pisorno where famous movies were filmed attracting the most renowned actors and VIPs from all over Italy. It is very simple to reach the coast from the airport of Pisa, the port of Livorno and its motorway junctions. The typically Mediterranean climate makes each season pleasant offering special moments full of colors and scents in spring, warm and bright summer days and relaxing times in autumn.
Marina di Pisa with the Arno River mouth is only 7 km north of Tirrenia. This seaside town is rich in history because Pisa was a mighty Maritime Republic. You can make guided boat trips, or boat trips with skipper to the islands of the Tuscan archipelago, such as Gorgona and Capraia.
A few kilometers south from Tirrenia, there is the small town of Calambrone where the above-mentioned old summer camps were restored and converted into small fully equipped apartment complexes just a few meters from the sea.
Tirrenia can offer many amenities for people who love sports; two golf courses, one with 9 holes and another with 18 holes, several tennis courts, a windsurf club, children's playgrounds, shops, bars, discos and nightclubs.
In addition, you can rent boats and skippers in the nearby Marina di Pisa.
